Gumption

Try not to ever swallow,

the piece that was a pain.

Cough it up, it’s choking us,

It can’t all end in vain.

The adult in me, the new one,

The one who grew old knew,

Adaptation was cruelly learnt,

And well learnt straight from you.

But it’s you, dad times two,

It’s you who can’t adapt,

Not the one who stands in front of you,

Begging for a slap.

It’s you, dad times two,

The one who skulks by,

The old ideals of a child,

Don’t reconcile your lies.

I found it on your  shoe,

the other half of my -ption,

That was me, dad times two.

I was stuck on you.
